A Delightful Day in Denmark

I had already visited the lovely Becky and Sarah a while ago, but you know how it is with wonderful people… You have to just go back and spend more time with them.
So on the way to Copenhagen, I managed to slip in another visit to Kiel, where I would meet up with Jana (the best biking companion ever) to set out on our next big adventure.
But first, a small adventure.

That small adventure consisted of a day trip hiking around Denmark’s beautiful landscape and a visit to Denmark’s oldest town, Ribe.

Becki greeted me with something along the lines of “I totally forgot your visit was THIS weekend, so, uhm, I planned a thing already and, yeah, would you like to go hiking?”
Well, who can resist such a charming invitation?

So off we went! To Denmark! Sarah kindly lent me her hiking boots (because I don’t take excess weight on a biking trip and hiking shoes definitely qualify as “heavy”).

The group were a bunch of very friendly and knowledgeable people.

We had a lovely time walking around the gorgeous countryside.

We also found some sundews.

And some gentian.

And more natural splendor in various shapes and sizes…

I managed to finish the hike, but my feet were not happy about Sarah’s hiking boots, so I was rewarded with two blisters the size of golfballs.

I was also rewarded with this favorite picture, so it was all worth it.

After roughly 17 km we got back to the parking lot, I switched to sandals and Becky drove us to the truly charming town of Ribe.

I also took a series of photos I am calling “Roses in Full Decay”.

The evening was spent having excellent Thai food with Anette, Becky, Sarah and Philipp.

Anette once again hosted us for the night, once again gave up her bed and spent the night on her yoga mat, proving once more she’s the motherf*n fox of hosts. The next morning, Jana and I left for our bike tour.
